Bioclimatic Home – Senegal
Designed by Ellearchitecture Studio, this home embodies a regenerative and sensory approach to living in harmony with Senegal’s unique climate — where dry winds, humid rains, and cool seasons alternate throughout the year.
The family’s intention was to reduce dependency on air conditioning by creating a naturally comfortable home that breathes with its environment. The design enhances natural air circulation, invites gentle daylight without capturing heat, and maintains a fluid connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Micro gardens and terraces were mindfully crafted to balance shade, airflow, and sensory experience — offering spaces that shift with light, scent, and texture throughout the seasons.
We prioritized local materials and traditional craftsmanship, using coquillage finishes and Senegalese stone, supporting local artisans while rooting the architecture in its cultural and ecological context.
Gray water from showers and laundry is reused to irrigate the gardens, where climate-adapted plants thrive alongside the existing mango and traveler’s trees, preserving the site’s natural memory and biodiversity.
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to bioclimatic and regenerative design, where architecture becomes a living system — responsive, rooted, and connected to the rhythms of nature.
